Spiritual Nuggets: Proud is Not an Innocent Word!

Updated: May 13, 2020

Proud, from an early age, is programmed into our psyche as being something very benign and innocent.  It's the reason we use the word "proud" very loosely.  Proud of my children.  Proud of my country etc.  It's also the reason we can unwittingly and unknowingly be insensitive, prejudiced, and condescending.  Pride

We are better and superior!

Proud is never used as something good or positive in the Bible.  It is a bad word.  Using it just shows the level of our deception and ignorance.  In fact, this word is used to described one of seven things that the Lord finds detestable.

Whereas proud and pride do give us a thrill and a false sense of superiority and invincibility, it leads to a very hard fall at the bottom of a cliff. that we take every day everyday

Finally, this word and mindset is very obnoxious to God because it's theft.  All glory...alll gloryy (I say again) belongs to him alone.  He is jealous of anybody and anything being worshipped besides him.  And, rightly so, he is the architect of this system and world we live in.  He holds it together by his word whether it's our mind, weather, gravity, food, the very breath that we take every dayeveryday!

Jesus does it!

All glory and praise belong to Him and absolutely nothing for us to be proud of.

"These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,"Prov 6:16-17)

"Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. ("Prov 16:18)

"But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble."  (James 4:6)
