The first month of our marriage, Kim and I went through a financial shortage. After paying our bills and a few leftover expenses from the wedding, we had almost nothing to sustain us for the next month. The cupboards bared little and payday was far away. Being young, but full of faith, we turned to God. We didn’t know how things would work out or what to expect, however, God taught us a valuable lesson.
“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” (Matthew 7:11)
The next evening, a friend came to the house to pay us a visit. After talking with us for a while, he told us that he had bought some items at a wholesale outlet and had more than his cupboard or refrigerator could contain. He offered us his surplus and of course we gladly accepted. Early in our marriage we proved God as Jehovah Jireh - the God who meets our every need.
Our relationship and faith grew as a result of this experience. Later in our marriage, we were able to look back at this earlier experience and again step out in faith when things got rough. There are times in all of our lives when God brings us into the wilderness to teach us lessons about His ability to provide. Don’t fret! If you are in a financial drought, it is an excellent opportunity for God to demonstrate His wonderful ability to meet your needs. Step out in faith and thank Him for His provision today.
*Thought* When God shuts a door he opens a window.
Prayer: Jehovah-Jireh, Thank you for showing us that Faith is the victory. Oh glorious victory that overcomes the world. We greatly appreciate Your mighty favors. Amen.
